His passionate love for every thing be-
longing to Antiquity, his innumerable and
conscientious researches, his talent as a
designer and engraver, his numerous and
useful publications, every thing in Mneas
Vicus recommands him to the esteem ot
posterily. We have given, p. 7 and p. 61,
his reproductions of antique Vases, and
pp. 11, 76, 140, etc., we continue his col-
lection of the Medals of the Empresses.
Besides those large Bronzes (p- 19), and
his séries of the XII Ccesars, he left com-
positions of Grotesques imitated from the
Antique, and on the canvass of which our
A. du Cerceau has embroidered his beau-
tiful Arabesks, which we intend to give
later.
A distinguished antiquary, he . applied
his artistic talents to the reproduction ot
the engraved Stones of the Greeks and
Romans, of which he had formed a rich
collection. Thèse admirable antique com-
positions, which the old master's graver
transmitted to us, have been too little
known by artists up to this day. We in-
tend to reproduce that interesting séries.
The subjects of the three pièces we pub-
lish are : fi g. 422, a group of Cupids play-
ing with dolphins ; — fig. 423, Bacchus
drawn on a car by a pair of warlike cen-
taurs; —fig. 424, Venus Aphrodite carried
by sea-horses, — (Fac-similé.) — Will be
continued.

Son amour passionné des choses de
l'Antiquité, ses innombrables et conscien-
cieuses recherches, son talent de dessina-
teur et de graveur, ses nombreuses et
utiles publications, tout dans Enée Yico le
recommande à l'estime de la postérité.
Nous l'avons vu, pp. 7, 61, reproduisant
les Vases antiques et pp. 11, 76, 140, etc.,
recueillant la suite des Médailles des Im-
pératrices. Outre ses grands Bronzes
(page 19), et sa suite des XII Césars, il a
laissé des compositions grotesques imitées
de l'Antique, et sur le canevas desquelles
notre A. Du Cerceau a brodé ses délicieu-
ses Arabesques. Nous les donnerons ulté-
rieurement.
Antiquaire distingué, il appliqua ses ta-
lents d'artiste à la reproduction des Pierres
gravées des Grecs et des Romains, dont
il avait formé une riche collection. Ces ad-
mirables compositions antiques, interpré-
tées par l'habile burin du vieux maitre, ont
été jusqu'ici trop peu connues des artistes.
• Nous en reproduirons l'intéressante suite.
Les sujets des trois pièces que n^usdon-
nons sont : fig. 422, un groupe d'Amours
jouant avec des dauphins;— fig. 423, Bac-
chus traîné sur un char par une couple de
centaures à l'allure guerrière;— fig. 424,
Vénus Aphrodite portée par îles chevaux
