miroir de main
Autre Miroir, pourvu de son manche, dont nous avons joint
le profil et la face postérieure. Le sujet figuré sur le disque, qui
est absolument plat, est Hercule au repos, couronné par une
Victoire ailée aux formes élégantes. Un simple rinceau à feuilles
accouplées entoure )a composition qui est rendue avec la plus
grande sobriété par un trait évidemment gravé à l'eàu-forle
La face du manche est plate, et doit avoir reçu une garniture
en ivoire sculpté. Le dessous du manche porte une figuration
de la massue du héros, et se termine élégamment par une tête
d'antilope. Le revers du disque est encadré d'un rebord godronné.

Another Mirror, with its lmndle, of which we have given both
the profile and back. The subject drawn on thedisk, which is
perfectly fiât, is Héraclès resling, crowned by a graceful win-
ged goddess of victory. A plain joined foliage surrounds the
drawingwhich isexecuted with the greatest sobriety (evidently
an aqua-forlis). The front of the handle is fiât, and must have
been ornamented with carved ivory. The back of the handle
bears an image of the hero's club, and ends in the shape of an
antelope's head. The back of the disk is surrounded by a plai-
