Laying aside the affeoted (orms
which oharacterize the epoch, P. Ger-
rnain's goldsmith compositions bear
the stamp of great élégance. We could
not give a more complète idea of it
but by chosing, among the hundred
plates which compose the volume, the
séries of a lady's Accessoires de toi-
lelie (about 1750). Figure 493 is the
sketch of the ensemble of those objects.
The most conspicuous parts of it are
the Mirror, the Water-jug, the Go-
blet, the Pot h pâte, the Boîte à
mouches, given p. 221. We add to
thèse détails, fig. 492, those of the
Toilet-flambeau, the Glove-box, the
Powder-box, the Jewel-box, and the
Scent-box- The détails of the other
pièces will be found further on. —

caractérisent l'époque, les composi-
tions d'Orfèvrerie (et de Grosserie)
de P. Germain portent le cachet
d'une grande élégance. Nous ne san-
rions en donner une idée plus com-
plète qu'en choisissant, parmi les cent
planches qui composent le volume,
la série des Accessoires de la Toi-
lette d'une dame de qualité (vers 1750).
La fig. 493 donne les croquis de l'en-
semble de ces objets. On retrouvera le
Miroir, le Pot à l'Eau, le Gobelet.
le Pot à pâte, la Boîte à Mouches
donnés p. 221. Nous joignons à ces
détails, fig. 492, ceux du Flambeau
de toilette, de la Gantière, de la
Boîte à poudre, du Coffre a bijoux
et ducouvercle du Coffre à racine. On
retrouvera plus loin le détail des au-
