On the eve of his death ‘ The Blessed
One’ called together all his disciples and
appears to have recapitulated the entire
system of his religion under seven heads which
are generally known as “ The Seven Jewels-of
the Buddhist Law.”
They are: —
(1) The four earnest meditation.
(l) The fourfold great struggle against
sin.
(3; The four roads to saintship.
(4) The five moral powers.
(5) Thefive organs of spiritual sense.
(6) The seven kinds of wisdom, and
(7) The Noble Eightfold Path.
(tz) The four earnest meditations are the
meditations on the idea1;, the reason, the
