Evidently the tablets were sup-
plied in this state to the clerk,
like ruled sheets of paper in a
modern business office.
In one quite exceptional
case the tablet, which is of the
elongated ' slip ' form, is scored
by vertical in place of hori-
zontal lines (Fig. 681). It is
thus divided into six compart-
ments,1 the last blank, the first
—rather wider than the others
—containing presumably the
name of the principal person
concerned in larger characters.
