loop at the base of the handle and over half of the oval opening in the centre
—to show that this had formed part of the attachment to a sword of
the 'cruciform' type. As in the case of the faience example from the
Mycenae tomb (Fig. 83(5), there was a sunken circle, which had doubtless
been filled by a small disk of gold plate, imitative of a nail head.
