Copy from the library of Cardinal DomenicoOrsini of Aragon (1719—89), to whom
this beautiful copperplate-work had been dedicated. Dom. Orsini was a member of the well-known
noble family of Rome. He perpetrated the interdiction of the Jesuits in Rome.

Large Paper copy of this esteemed standard work, of high rarity. The last fascicles
of the work having been published not earlier than 37 years after the beginning, the num-
ber of the plates varies in the different copies. Copies containing 169 plates like ours rank
among the greatest rarities. The British Museum copy of the large issue contains only
168 plates. Brunet states (vol. II. 1537/38): „Les trois livrais. 29 a 31 renfermant les pl.
160 a 185 ont ete publiee chez Garnery en 1828 et en 1829, sans le concours de M. de
Candolle,- mais elles ne se trouvent jointes qu’a un tres-petit nombre d’exemplaires . . . Nous
n’avons pas vu la 31 e livrais., mais elle est indiquee par M. Pritzel, no. 2185”.
The work is of the same splendour in the execution like the other works illustrated
by Redoute. Besides the printed Index relating to vol. I (= facs. 1—20) there is to be found
a MS.-Index extending over the whole work. Very fine copy, well preserved.
