the princes Aleksander and Konstanty Sobieski,12 and the young musketeer Fran-
ciszek Hieronim Granowski served at the French Kings court.13 We should as-
sume that the pałace was also visited at the beginning of the 1690S by the later
owner of the “Polish Versailles,” the then young son of the Voivode of Podole,
Jerzy Stanisław Dzieduszycki14 (1670-1730), on an educational tour around Europę
in the company of his cousin, Stanisław Karol Jabłonowski, although he did not
record a description of this particular visit on the pages of his travel diary Other
travellers, on the other hand, jotted morę or less accurate accounts of their stay in
the royal residence in their travelogues.
In this context, we should mention that travellers usually came to Versailles
equipped with popular guidebooks and works of geographic naturę, the perusal
of which preceded personal observations and attempts to describe their own im-
pressions.15 In 1700, the then Ruthenian Voivode, Jan Stanisław Jabłonowski, on his
way to France, purchased items that would enrich his extensive book collection,
including another, perhaps 1696, edition of Description du chdteau de Versailles
