Les décorations exécutées par Raphaël au palais C/ii't/i (petit
Farnèse ou Farnésine) semblent inaugurer une phase nouvelle
dans la manière du peintre de la Dispute du saint Sacrement,
de l'Ecole d'Athènes et du Parnasse. On pense que l'aspect des
peintures exécutées par Michel Ange à la chapelle Sixtine, et que
Bramante trouva moyen de lui faire voir, malgré les précautions
que le Maître avait prises pour écarter de ses travaux les regards
indiscrets, fut la cause de ce progrés. — Le sujet de la décoration
générale de la Galerie est l'histoire de Psyché. Les triangles cur-
vilignes , formés' au-dessus des croisées par la pénétration.des
voûtes, sont remplis par des amours voltigeants et portant les
dépouilles des dieux soumis à l'empire de l'Amour. Gravure de

The décorations executed by Raphaël in the palace Chigi (little
Farnese or Farnesina) seem to inaugurate a new phase in the
painter of the Debate of holy Sacrement, School of Athens, and
Parnassus. It is thought that the paintings executed by Michel
Angelo in the Sixtina chapel, which Bramante showed to him, in
spite of the care this last master had taken to conceal his works
from ail indiscreet gaze, was the cause of this improvement.
The subject of the gênerai décoration is the history of Psyché.
The curvilineal triangles, left empty above the Windows by the
pénétration of the vaults, are fllled with fluttering Cupids bearing
the spoils of the Gods submitted to the empire of Love. Engraved
