For a bold touch, variety of posture, curious and HablGolt^ktg
true lhadow, imitate Goltzius; his prints are com-
monly to be had in Popes-head-alley. Himself was li-
ving at my laft being in the Low Countries at Har-
lem but by reason of the loss of one of his eyes, he
hath given over a Hinge in copper, and altogether ex-
erciseth his pencil in oyle.
The pieces of Michael Angelo are rare,and very hard MichaetAugeToi
to be come by. Himself lived in Rome, and was while
he lived esteeraed the best Painter in Europe, as verily
it secmeth by that his famous piece of the Lajl judgment,
in the Popes Chappell, being accounted one of the
best in the world.
Hans Holben was likewise an excellent Master. H€ painted
lived in the time of King Henry the eighths and was the Chappell
employed by him against the coming of the Empe- atWhiteHall,
rour Charles the fifth into England +. I have seen and s- i
many pieces of his in oyle, and once os his owne
