This large apartment is decorated by thirteen pictures by
Angelica Kauffmann, let into the walls, and which, by their
pleasing composition and cheerful colouring, have an agreeable
effect.
Canaletto. — 1 and 2. Views of Venice, one of them repre-
senting the Doge's palace, with the festival of the Bucentaur.
Good specimens of the master.
Franz Pourbus the younger.—Portrait of a man with his
son. To the knees. Natural, warm, and well finished.
Laurent de la Hire.—Belisarius receiving alms from a
woman. A careful and well-coloured picture by the painter.

Sir Joshua Reynolds.—-3. Portrait of Lady Say and Sele,
with a boy, afterwards Colonel Eardley. The lady is seated, in a
white dress, with a black hat and feathers on her head, and
another on her lap. The boy is standing, with a walking-stick in
his right hand. The background is a landscape. An attractive
picture, of great animation and transparency.
Gainsborough.—Portrait of Lord Gage. Of great merit.

Philip Wouvermans.—1. Interior of a court, with a stone
gateway in the background. On the left is a group consisting of
a grey horse held by a boy, a gentleman, and a groom. In the
centre a rider galloping along on a piebald horse. On the right
two horses with a groom. Quite in the foreground is a man next
the overturned base of a column. Above the wall of the court
are seen two light trees, with clouds illuminated by the sun. A
very delicate picture of his second manner, the effect of which is
injured by the darkening of the foreground.
2. The companion to the above. Also the interior of a court,
with a portion of an open gateway. On the wall is a field-piece,
and three figures are next trees. On the left, in the foreground,
is a brown horse tied up, and a grey horse held by a groom. In
