First Book printed at Ortona in the Abruzzi, in the famous printing-
office of Soncino.
This beautifully printed work, one of the finest books printed by Hieroni-
mus Soncino, is a defence of the Roman Catholic religion against Judaism, and
at the same time defends Reuchlin (Capnio) against the attacks of his contempo-
raries. It is an important work in the „ Battle of the Hebrew Books”, in which
Reuchlin played the chief part.
The book is arranged in the form of dialogues betwen Capnio (Reuchlin).
Hodistraten, and Galatinus himself, on the Talmud, and other important Heb-
rew books, which throw a flood of hight on the Bible-

mely rare, first known edition of 1586, one at the Hofbibliothek at Vienna, the other at Laibadi.
Translator is the poet Benedict Zboric from Trau in.Dalmatia.
The fullpage woodcut represents the genealogical tree of Jesse, the evangelists and biblical scenes
The first and last leaves are slightly wormholed, otherwise fine copy.
