coloured), horsemanship, tournaments, bridles etc. and 1 double
page plate, all by Jost Amman. On the title a very fine, histori-
ated woodcut border and many ornamental initials in the text. Old marbled

First German edition of this important book on horsemanship and tournaments. The very
fine, mostly full page cuts are executed by Jost Amman. These cuts are here printed for the
first time and therefore the impressions of them are here the best. They represent chiefly
Interesting scenes of tournaments and of the training of horses.
Our copy contains the extremely scarce double-page bloud-letting plate of a
horse, containing 79 explanations of veins, arteries &c. This plate is of the greatest interest for the
history of veterinary science. In most of the copies known this plate is wanting,

the right lower blank corner of title leaf repaired.

Neither Nagler (III, 1768, 20) nor Andresen (I, 419—20) know this edition which is a page
for page reprint of the original edition of 1570 (see above).
Rent in back margin of title, the woodcut-border of which is slightly touched with colour,
unfortunately some of the woodcuts have also been covered with water-colour in a rather childish
manner, but otherwise this is a fine copy of a rare and esteemed book on horses and horsemanship.
The large folding plate is wanting as usually.
