College at Cambridge, before the king and queen In 1632. Thomas Randolph, major fellow of the
college, lived from 1605—1635.

Probably the first edition of an anonymous writing on the BAlgorithmus’’, with notes of
Schfiner. The authorship goes back at least to the 14th cent. It Is a late variation of the Boethian
works and purely theoretical.

This Brussels edition unknown to Tissandler, Brockett and Liebmann-Wahl. The most im-
portant work in the history of ballooning, describing the first successful ascent at Annonay
(June 1783 s in a balloon made of packcloth and inflated with heated air, as well as the historical
ascent from the Champs de Mars, in the presence of 300.000 spectators. The work contains a large
amount of interesting technical details. Very good copy, browned in places. Rare.

First edition; extremely rare. One of that na’ff but wonderful man Father Kircher’s
most Important works, containing descriptions of a number of Ingenious Inventions. Dealing with
astronomical and physical subjects, uch as gnomonics, the microscope, water-dial, burning-mirror &c.,
It is of the greatest Importance for the history of optics and chromatics; but It Is also most
important for the history of aerial navigation: some chapters are headed „Fabrlca Machinae
volatilis”, „In aere Draconem volantem, aliaque portentosa simulacra rerum exhibere”, and there is
a reference to the automatic pigeon of Archytas. Besides, the book contains numerous experiments?
tricks, curiosities, &c., and further the author is in this work the first to mentlonfluore-
cen ce.
Fine and clean copy.
