Hope by the Ancients was drawn in the form of a
sweet and beautifull child in a long Robe hanging loos,
landing upon the tip toes, and a rreysoile or three
leaved grass in the hand. Hope hath her infancy and
encrease, her amiable countenance, the pleasure and
delight {he bringeth, the loos garment (hews she never
pincheth or bindeth truth, but alloweth the large!!

In the Meddals of Gold of the Emperour Adrian and
Claudim, file is diawn like a Lady all in green, with
one hand holding up the skirt of her garment, in the
other a goblet with a Lilly in the same, and these let-
ters, R P.
Elsewhere shs is drawn in yellow with a ssowry plant
an her hand, her garment also embroydered with sun-
dry ssowers, as Roses, Violets, Dasfadils, &c. in her
left hand an Anchor.
She is also cxprefled all in green with a Garland of
sundry ssowers upon her head giving a .Cupid) or Love
suck, for indeed {he is the food of love. Amor sine spe9
