NOTES ON SOME DRAWINGS BY EDMUND KAPP
“ RT. HON. C. F. G. MASTERMAN ”
BY EDMUND X. KAPP
The drawing of The Golden Thread (Sir
Henry Wood), a good design, like all Mr.
Kapp's work, is much coarser both in
drawing and conception. Its inspiration is
literary. Gesture and pose are admirable,
but it is less personal than the Viscount
Morley, as regards both artist and subject.
The drawing of Yone Noguchi, the
Japanese poet, is curiously abstract in
feeling, and seems to express a mental
138
atmosphere rather than a definite indi-
vidual. The form is simplified and in-
tensified at the same time. It is a
masterpiece of crystalline expression. 0
The realization of type in the individual
is particularly well exemplified in The
Bishop, who is an unmistakable individual.
The drawing is at the same time the
concrete expression of the soul of any
bishop. 0 0 0 J. B. M.
