The Thomas B. Proctor Prize, $200, for
the best portrait to Mr. Giovanni Troccoli
for A Veteran of the Civil War. The
J. Francis Murphy Memorial Prize, $150,
for the best landscape by an artist under 45
to Mr. Guy Wiggins for The Quiet Valley.
The Julia Shaw Memorial Prize of $300
(for women only) to Miss Gertrude Fiske
for her painting of a Nude. The Helen

Foster Barnett Prize for sculptors under 35
to Miss Brenda Putnam for her Sun-dial.
The Elizabeth N. Watrous Gold Medal for
sculpture to Miss H. W. Frishmuth for her
Fantasie. In the course of the past four
years the Council has purchased nineteen
paintings out of the Henry W. Ranger Fund
and assigned them to art museums through-

left much to be desired, except perhaps in
the Vanderbilt Gallery, where Mr„Wayman
Adams's life-size portrait group of Middle
West painters, Mr. William Paxton's por-
