Der dem Tafelwerke vorangehende Text befafit sich mit der genauen
Beschreibung samtlicher Etats der 57 in d. J. 1779—1798 erschienen Ansichten
von Wien und Umgebung und entwickelt ein vollstandiges Kulturbild der be-
treffend. Epochen auf ikonographischer Grundlage. Zur bildlichen Veran-
schaulichung und Charakteristik der wichtigsten Merkmale enthalt die Be-
schreibung 250 im Texte verteilte Abbildungen. Der Verfasser hat durch jah-
relanges Studium alter wichtigsten Quellen das gesamte auf die Herausgabe
der Originalstiche beziigliche Material durchforscht und ist dadurch in der
Lage, eine nahezu liickenlose Geschichte dieses nicht nur fiir Wien, sondern
fur die gesamte Kultur der damaligen Zeit wichtigen Werkes in einer Einlei-
tung zu dieser Publikation niederzulegen. Bildliche Reproduktionen und Wie-
dergaben wichtiger Dokumente erhbhen den Reiz der Darstellung. Einen
wertvollen literarischen Beitrag erhalt das Werk durch den geistvollen Essai
von Rudolf Hans Bartsch, in welchem der bekannte Dichter ein fesselndes
Sittenbild der Wiener Gesellschaft entwickelt. Das Werk umfaht in 57 Tafeln
diejenigen Hauptansichten, welche, als Gesamtwerk geplant, innerhalb 20
Jahren bei Artaria einzeln und mit beschreibendem Text versehen, erschienen
sind. Diese Beschreibungen, in deutscher und franzosischer Sprache im ge-
nauen Wbrtlaut reproduziert, wurden gleichfalls dem Werke beigefiigt.

lours, 7 title-leaves, 31 plates and 1 end-leaf, also richly printed
in colours and heightened with gold, 113 illustrations in the text
and the portrait of Swenigorodskoi, etched by F. Gaillard.

binding with deepened impress and rich decoration in Byzantine
style. The edges are ornamentally chased and decorated in co-
lours. With a fine book-mark twined of gold and silver on silk.
Preserved in an upholstered box. Frs. 950.—

Printed in 200 copies only which never passed into the trade. This copy bears
no. 117 and is printed for the Prince Constantin zu Hohenlohe-

of the Byzantine enamel, chapters III—IV the Byzantine and Russo-Byzantine
enamels of this collection.
