V. BROADSIDES
VERY EARLY PUBLISHER’S ADVERTISEMENT
100 Publisher^ Advertisement for Rainerus de Pisis, Pantheologia
(in Latin). N. p. d. (Nuremberg, Johannes Sensenschmidt and
Heinr. Kef er, 1473). Broadside. Goth. 32 lines. 290X195 mm. 1850.—
Einblattdrucke des 15. Jahrh., 1313. Burger, Buchhandleranzeigen, 12
reproduces the imperfect copy of the Munich Library. Besides this only two
copies are known.
An extremely rare and interesting Prospectus of the Rainerus de Pisis,
Pantheologia (Hain 13015), which was printed in 1473 by Sensenschmidt, the
first typographer of Nuremberg, and Heinrich Kefer, the companion of Gu-
tenberg. Our broadside announces this work in a rather glorifying manner.
It was destined to be posted up, especially on doors of churches and conse-
quently its extreme rarity is evident. The bookseller going from town to town
was obliged to write the address of bis shop below, as our prospectus ends
(in the English translation) as follows: „A11 who wish to buy this very cor-
rect and most useful ,Summa1 may go to the shop named below, where they
will find a very honest seller". Our copy not having such an indication is,
therefore, in its unused original state.
The great rarity of broadsides in general is sufficiently known, but
booksellers announcement's scarcely ever reach the market. The catalogue
of „Einblattdrucke“ mentions only 40 different prospectusses, some being me-
re fragments.
This copy is in splendid preservation, with unusually wide margins.
No copy at London, Oxford, Berlin or in U. S. A. (acc. to Census).
lot Peraudi, Raim. Litferae indulgentiarum datae a Raimundo Perau-
di e bulla Innocentii VIII pro bello contra Turcos suscipiendo, da-
tae anno 1490. N. p. d. (Venice, Johann Hamann, 1490). Broadside
printed on vellum (147X240 mm). Goth. 29 lines. With fragments
of the capsule of the seal still adherent. 950.—
Not in Hain and Copinger. Reichling 235. Einblattdruck des XV. Jahrh.
1170.
A very rare letter of indulgence encouraging a war against the Turks.
The name ,Cristofanus de Richerijs' and the date ,XXIIj Julij' are supplied in
a contemporary hand. Only one other copy is knowm of this broadside.
Broadsides printed on vellum rank among the greatest rarities, especially
when fragments of the seal remain, as in our copy.
No copy in U. S. A. (acc. to Census).
102 Ulrich Herzog von Wiirttemberg. Verordnung gegen das Fluchen und Trin-
ken. Gegeben Stuttgart den 23. April 1515. Broadside. Fol. (Text 121LiX81/4 in-
ches: size of paper 171//lXll3/4 inches). 72 lines, Goth, letter. 250.—
A most interesting and extremely rare decree against swearing and drinking by Ul-
rich Herzog von Wiirttemberg. With interesting details regarding drinking customs and the pu-
nishments for drunkards. Drunkeness is not a mitigatory plea in criminal cases but an aggra-
vating circumstance. In a splendid state of preservation with full margins.
