This work is without any text, it contains only an engraved title and 17 large plates
after Vesal. The first plate with a skeleton bears the inscription „Tizianus Inventor et Deii-
neavit“ and on the title-leaf there is a large bust of Titian over the lion of S. Mark. It was
thus believed for a long time that these large and beautiful illustrations had been engraved by
Titian himself.
Slightly brown-stained, but in a good state of preservation. Complete co-
pies are rare.

Choulant 224. Apponyi 1662. — EDITIO PRINCEPS of the most important classic work
on horse-medicine and general veterinary surgery. The manuscript was found by the Count
of Neuenar and sent to the printer, Joh. Emmeus Faber, who was ordered to correct and print
it. The text is preceded by the editor's preface and the Count's dedication to King Ferdinand
of Hungary.
A large copy, some leaves waterstained on the upper part.

navigation in the Mediterranean.
The 1st part treats of ship-building. The 2nd parts deals with air currents & is illustr.
with nautical instruments. In the 3rd part the author gives a detailed description of the narrows
(p. 307 stretto di Magagliani), ebb and flow, etc. in the Mediterranean. The 4th part cont. tab-
les of the equinoxes and the declination of the sun for many years in advance, & a nautical
calendar, ,De gli errori, che si commettono pigliando 1'altezza del Polo con 1‘Astrolabio & Bal-
lestriglia, che usano i Naviganti occidentali", etc. In the last part the importance of a navy
is discussed, Chap. 1; ,,Avuertimento a' Prencipi sopra il modo di stirpar i Corsari, & come
si possino disfare le forze del Turco." On p. 514 begins a description of a pneumatic gun ;
,,Archibugio senza fuoco, che fa il medesimo effetto, che quel da fuoco" (w. illustr. on p. 521).
