The Floral Still Lifes of Andreas Stech
The study discusses the three floral still lifes of Andreas Stech (1635-1697), the most
prominent Gdańsk painter of his generation (after Daniel Schultz’ departure from the
city)10"’. His ambitions reached beyond a monogenre specialization so characteristic of
the guild communities of Dutch and Hanseatic towns of the time and the ease with
which he moved within the rangę of actually all genres of painting is truły phenom-
enal, to quote here the storia, portrait, landscape and still life. His work oscillating
