The Deser!ft ion c/LarisTa and Thessalyc
and to be bought in every good Town or Fair. I brought
a Pound of it Home with me, which lost not its tin&uring Qua-
lity.
The Grecian Countries, which I palled, are extremely altered from
that State, whereof we read in ancient History : as having buffered
spoiling Incursions from many Nations, and a fatal Conquest by the
Turks; who utterly destroyed many Towns and famous Places, and
changed the Names of moll; not leaving the old Appellations unto
Rivers, which moil lastingly maintain their ancient Names. I pas-
bed most of the great Rivers in Macedonia., the Axius, Er iyon us and
Aliacmon^ which have now Names os no affinity unto them* The Ri-
ver Peneus, so famous in the old Poets, hath lost its name, together
with Apidanus., Enipeus^ and others, that run into it. The Turks call
Larissa, Jeni-Sahar TheJJaly, Comenolitari.
