ALBERTUS MAGNUS
Albert von Bollstadt, O. Pr., the Great Theologian, Philosopher
and Natural Philosopher, Bishop of Regensburg, born at Lau-
ingen in 1193, died at Cologne in 1280.
213 De anima. De intellect!! et intelligibili. Venice, Reynaldus de Novi-
magio, 1481.
Fol. Goth, letter, 48-49 lines, 2 col., 124 unn. leaves with sign.
Original wooden boards, back covered with blind stamped brown leather,
on the wooden covers three large circles painted in red. Frs. 1500.—
Gesamtkatalog 585. Hain (not seen) -Copinger 496. Proctor 4440 A. Brit. Mus.
Cat. V, 256. Campbell 76.
First edition of this interesting treatise dealing partly with psydiology. Passing
through the first section, which deals with the attributes of the soul, we read of the
relation of the soul to the body. Following this are chapters on dietetics. The
section on the Intellect develops a psychological interest.
Extremely rare.
Good and large copy, si. waterstained at upper margins, some old marginal MS.
notes. On 1. a2 the entry of an owner from the 16th or 17th cent.: Sum Matihiae
Holzinger (a Vienna family).
No copy in U. S. A. (acc. to Census and Gesamtkat.).
214 Compendium theologicac veritatis, cum thematibus Bernoldi
Caesariensis. With Tabula of Th. Dorniberg. Ulm, Johann Zai-
ner, n. d. (ah. 1478).
Fol. Goth, letter, 40 lines, 1Q2 unn. leaves, the first and last blank,
capital spaces. Original wooden boards covered with blind-tooled white calf,
panel divided by diagonal bands filled with small floral stamps, cable work,
and scrolls bearing the inscription AEIOV, two clasps (wormed and slightly
rubbed). Frs. 500.—
Gesamtkatalog 600. Hain* 437- Proctor 2532. Brit. Mus. Cat. II, p. 527- We-
gener, Die Zainer in Ulm, 5.
An interesting book printed by the first printer at Ulm. About the author the
middle ages have much disputed and probably no medieval work has been attributed
to so many different authors. Judging from latest explorations the opinion is that the
author is Albertus Magnus.
Fine and very large copy, the last leaves of the register slightly waterstained,
some wormholes at end.
Only one copy in U. S. A. (acc. to Census).
