RARE & FAMOUS PRESSES

calf, nicely adorned with roll stamped
Frs. 3600.—
Gesamtkatalog 782. Hain*-Cop. 458.
Proctor 9491- Brit. Mus. Cat. HI, p. 814.
Very interesting, extremely
scarce specimen with full colophon
of one of the two products of Ala-
kraw’s press at Vimperk (Winterherg).
Johann Alakraw from Passau worked
in the smaR Bohemian town Vimperk only
for a short time in the year 1484. He
produced in this year only two books
and a calendar for 1485, the first Czech
calendar ever printed. These two incu-
nabula are both quite extremely rare,
of the calendar exists only one copy.
(Cf. Volf, Gesdiidite Buchdrucks in Bohmen
u. Mahren, p. 26).
Of some typographical interest are
the signatures in this book, of a quire
of 8 or 10 leaves, each sheet of two
leaves is signed on the recto of the first leaf with one of the alphabetical letters a—z
in their order (e. g.: a b c8, d e f g8, hi klm” etc.)
Extremely scarce edition of the Summa de Eucharistia.
Good and quite complete copy, slightly waterstained, some old ms. mar-
ginal notes.
The copy in the British Museum is imperfect, the Gesamtkatalog knows only
4 copies in Public Libraries of Germany.
No copy in U. S. A. (acc. to Census).
