Fine, large copy in its old binding. Some slight reparations and stains, first leaf
slightly wormed.

This is a very fine and well-preserved copy with exceptionally large margins, of this exquisite
piece of printing, measuring 131/4X 9 in. The first five leaves are damaged by wormholes in the outer
blank margin; there arc some large, but faint waterstains towards the end, the letterpress however
being affected only very slightly; a few other stains and numerous marginal annotations by various
early owners. Apart from these flaws the copy is in a very fine condition and preserved in its
interesting original binding.
Fine, large and clean copy of this second edition of the works of Seneca.

With woodcut capitals, white on black ground. Contemporary binding of oaken
boards covered with richly stamped brown leather, embossed brass centre-

This work was intended as a ‘commonplace-book of historical anecdotes for use in the schools
of rhetoric where the pupils were trained in the art of embellishing speeches by references to hi-
story*. It contains many chapters of special interest.
First leaves wormed, some marginal annotations in an early hand, but a good copy in an
interesting contemporary binding which, however, is rather wormed but skilfully re-
paired in some places. Note of ownership on title-leaf (partly erased).
