second and enlarged recension till yeth for its gret accuracy an indispensable help. The printed
pages show a singular appearance by using of arabic numerals in the text. Good copy. Some very
insign, stains.

The very renowned mediaeval school-book, a collection of edifying moral anecdotes
and stories, mostly miraculous from the Bible and the history of the Middle Age. It was one of the
favorite books, read at table in monasteries and nunneries in the Middle Age.
Quite complete copy in the nice original binding, but rather waterstained and wormed in pla-
ces. Small stamp and note of ownership in the title leaf. Only one copy in U. S. A. (acc. to Census).

woodcuts, all in contemporary colouring. Contemporary binding of
wooden boards covered with nicely blind-tooled pigskin, two clasps. 1800.—
Hain* 6741. Schreiber 4973. A German woodcut incunabulum of the utmost rarity. Schreiber men-
tions only four copies.
The woodcuts which are all carefully coloured by a contemporary hand represent different sce-
nes from the Gospels. The full-page cut at the beginning depicts the Crucifixion with S. Mary and
S. John, surrounded by the Evangelists. Of this edition there exist only 4 copies besides ours, as sta-
ted above: and this copy is absolutely perfect.
There are some insignificant wormholes and some slight stains in a few places. A rent in leaf
88 repaired at an early date, otherwise a fine copy in its old binding.
