" Beaks."—The frontier line of Russia was to pass through
Bolgrad, so marked on the French Maps, and agreed to by
the Russian Plenipotentiaries. The place so designated sub-
sequently proved to be a place called Talak, the real Bolgrad
being more advantageously placed for the interests of Russia.
" The mistake " was thought to have been a clever " dodge "
of the Muscovite.
