TRANSLATION :— 'To my revered father Arion : Thonis, greeting. Before ail things I
make supplication for you daily, praying also before the ancestral gods of this place in which
I am living that 1 may flnd you in good health, and so too ail our relatives. See, this is the fifth
time I bave written to you, and you have not written to me but once only, not even about your
health, nor have you corne to me; though you sent me word "I am coming" you did not come
in order to find out whether my teacher is looking after me or not. And he himself too almost
daily enquires about you, " Isn't he coming yet?" As for me, I say just one thing : "Yes."
Hasten then to come to me quickly in order that he may teach me, as he is eager to do. If you
had come up with me I should have been taught long ago. And when you come remember the
matters I have often written to you about. Come to me then quickly before he départs to the
upper districts. Many greetings to ail our relatives by name, with those who love us; and greet-
