It abounds with fair Churches, (lately Convents, and Religious Foun-
dations, richly endowed, so that it hath been called the Paradife os
Priefts, and is in that kind the most notable in all these parts. The
Palace of the Bishop is a noble Fabrick, built by Cardinal Erar dur,
Bilhop os Liege. The Cathedral bears the Name of St. Lambert, who
being Bilhop of Maeflreicht was murdered by Dodo and others, about
the year 6m. Th^ Sea was afterwards translated unto Liege by Hu-
ber tus, as it had been formerly from Tongres to Mae(lreicht-sr\^ the Bo>
dy of St.. Lambert removed unto this Church, which is at present very
noble, being built of a reddisli Stone, very much carved without, and
handsomly adorned within. Between the Quire and Sacrlsty, is this
Inscription in very large Letters :

Maximilianus Henricus Dei gratia Archiepifeopus Coloniensis, Epif-
copus & Princeps LtcMioM\s,Supremus Bullonensis Dux,
Speutus the Bilhop of Liege,bought the Principality of Liege God-
frey Nt Bouillon, when he went to the Holy Land: And in the Treaty
N Cambray, 1579. the posleillon os Bouillon, and precedency of Ti le,
was granted to the Bilhop of Liege, although at. this time also the
Houses of La four and Mark do bear the same.
Of the Parilh Churches that of St. John, ard os St. Servasius are
fair. Of the Abbeys that of St. Jacob within the Town, and of St.
Lawrence, built by Bilhop Raginardus upon an Hill out of the Town,
are noble. There is also a College of Enghfh Jesuites, well-seated upon
a Hill, where the Garden is handlbm, and the Dyals, made by Franc/J-
cus Linus, are worth the seeing: And an Englifh Nunnery handsom-
ly built. In the Church of the Gulielmites, out of the Town,lies the
Body or our famous Country-man Sir John Mandeville, who, after he
had travelled through many parts, took an affection unto this place,
and here pahed the remainder of his life, and whole Epitaph, arid seme
Rareties of his, are Hill to be seen.
Bishop Not ger, who was consecrated by St. Gereon, Arch-bishop os
Colen, and died in the year 1007. built the walls of this City, and be-
ing Tutor to Otho the third, he found means very much to beauti'sie it,
to repair and build divers Churches, and endow them with rich Reve¬
