the same time that the restorations of the sculptures as they now exist, in the Gallery of Munich, may be subjected
to further criticism by these observations of a lover and eye witness of their discovery.

For the sculptor and the archaeologist a field of the highest interest, scarcely yet explored, is still open, in
favour not only of the peculiar merits of the ,*. * ***. « *-* but also of the character, the incidents, and

previous discoveries have revealed.

The public is greatly indebted to the French authorities for most of what has hitherto appeared* on this
interesting subject! and is still waiting with impatience for those more elaborate illustrations which the learned
people amongst whom they are deposited, are so highly qualified to give us.

In Plate XV. another composition is essayed, showing thirteen figures.
