Hain*-Copinger 10369. Proctor 1998. Brit. Mus. Cat. II, 419. Schreiber V, 4843.
Hase 43.
Variant beginning like Copinger’s copy and being divided in an other way as
those described by Hain and by the Brit. Mus. Cat. It seems to be the second and
corrected state and therefore the extra leaf in quire O of the 2nd vol. is not found
as being here useless. The text is absolutely complete.
„Ce sont les 43 gravures sur bois de cette edition qui ont servi de base pour
les figures des Nos. 3472—3478 (Nuremberg, Strafiburg and Basle editions of the Bible)
et aussi pour une partie des illustrations de la traduction de Martin Luther". (Sdirei-
ber op. cit.)
This work represents the first printed declaration of the bible. It has been
corrected, in our edition, by Paulus de Sancta Maria, or Solomon Levi, a
converted jew. Especially the Jewish rites have been described here very completely
partly illustrated by woodcuts.
Complete copies of this book are very rare.
Fine clean and large copy in its original binding with few old ms. notes, only
the first and last leaves of each vol. slightly wormed.
On leaf 2 an interesting old note: „Romanorum Regie Mt Cs physicus Wolf-
gangus Kapler M. Doctor Emptum per xij flore. Iste liber constat 6 flore altera pars
etiam 6 flore." A similar note at the beginning of the second vol.
Only two perfect copies in U. S. A. (acc. to Census).
