*TpHE Child being washed, it was wrapt in a cloth Wc-

the Gorgon,aa& the Snakes of her head, as it was in (JUintrvas
Aegis, by the help whereof Ptrsew had cut it osf, Besides the
IikeneiTe of two Dragons drawn in gold, by Minervas own
command, and in memory ofEriUhmm\ who beingborrs
of nothing but Vnhans seed spilt on the ground in forcing of
the goddesse, and having feet like a Dragon was exposed
and committed by her, to the custody of two vigilant Dra-
gons, • Eurip.inlon.

thence came the custome I speak of. And yet perhaps nei-
ther those Dragons, nor the others in imitation of them,
were any thing else but emblems, used by the authors to ex-
preiTe the narrow and watchful! care that wa», or ought to
be had in the breeding of the child j for so they are like to
have been asilgned for keepers of other things too, as of the
apples of the Hebrides &c. & that because of their quickness
