ween lier and the goddesses of Pteria and Eyuk, though there is a likeness in lier position
and the attitude of lier hands. We must therefore at présent refrain from the attempt to
identify any of the deities of Pteria with those at Fraktin. The close resemblance which
exists in some cases does not amount to identity, and may be due only to the same art
representing two closely allied figures. But while no individual figures can be identified,
there seems no possibility of doubting thatthe art is the same. There is certainly greater
freedom and power in the art of Pteria. The sculptor there had more mastery over his
material and more ease in working out his ideas : lie represents the human face in
particular much more successfully than the artist of Fraktin. But in spite of tins diffé-
rence, the resemblance of style is just as great as is the contrast of both with the art
either of Egypt or of Assyria. Points of resemblance to Egyptian and Assyrian art may
be noticed. but the spirit and soul is différent; points of différence betwen Pteria and
Fraktin may be noticed, but the spirit and soul is the same.

Fraktin stands midway in style between Eyuk and Pteria, more developed than the
former, but less so than the latter.

NOTE ADDITIONNELLE SUR LES TOMBEAUX D'ASSOUAN

Les anciennes tombes sises vis-à-vis d'Assouan, déblayées par le général Grenfeli,,
ont été décrites, et leurs inscriptions, publiées par M. Bouriant dans le dixième volume
du présent Recueil (p. 181-198). Toutefois, celle du prince Su-mes, découverte depuis,
est restée inédite. C'est une petite tombe, non numérotée, pareille à celle de Bahenu,
mais moins grande. Elle a une forme rectangulaire de couloir avec colonnes proto-
doriques; au fond du couloir, est taillée une niche ou chapelle funéraire avec l'image du
défunt et une table d'offrandes. Je recueillis en même temps (février 1891), au tombeau
de Se-ronpitu (n° 36), les inscriptions des montants de porte, encore emblayées au temps
de M. Bouriant. C'est ce petit ensemble de textes que je publie ci-dessous.
