Architector Petr Pokryshkin and his researches
in castle's prison in Lublin
In the Saint Petersburg archive of Institute of History of Materia! Culture, RASS, there are documents and
photos which represent the history of the First restoration period of famous murals in St. Trinity Chapel
in Lublin. The Royal castle with the Chapel is a museum now, however, it used to be a prison.
Petr Pokryshkin, the architect of Emperors Archaeological Commission did the First scientific generał
research of the old building in 1903.
He cleared and studied the paintings in the open part of the interior. The upper part of the walls and
the ceiling were left under the whitewash, because the services were held in the prisons Catholic Chapel.
Ali paintings cleared before 1914 are listed in the article. The architects drawings and photos make
it possible to clarify a lot of details in the paintings, which were lost during a long period of restoration.
The research shows the contribution madę by Russian architect Petr Pokryshkin into the history of
Polish culture.
