The Horniman Free Museum
THE COMMEMORATIVE TABLET
BY F. W. POMEROY
rounded arrises of the tower, concerning which
hostile critics have something to say, are not only
an architectural relief to the eyes after the monotony
of straight lines and sharp angles ; they are also
elements of repose that accord well with the strong
constructive logic of the whole building.
Indeed, built thoughtfully for a given purpose,
the Horniman Free Museum is quite practical
enough in all its arrangements to be a modern
public building for the convenient display of relics;
it is easy of access, it is spacious and unpretentious
in its internal planning, and every care has been
taken to make it a place in which a crowd may
move easily without jostling, and without feeling in
the least bewildered. Most museums need as
many finger-posts as may be found on a long
