hostile critics have something to say, are not only
an architectural relief to the eyes after the monotony
of straight lines and sharp angles ; they are also
elements of repose that accord well with the strong
constructive logic of the whole building.

Indeed, built thoughtfully for a given purpose,
the Horniman Free Museum is quite practical

enough in all its arrangements to be a modern
public building for the convenient display of relics;
it is easy of access, it is spacious and unpretentious
in its internal planning, and every care has been
taken to make it a place in which a crowd may
move easily without jostling, and without feeling in
