three ancient pictures ; a book rack and a clock
shelf with a design of tulips, gilded, the leaves
stained green and a background of mahogany-
stain, the simple outlines deeply burned. Miss
May Jaynes had a box carved in high relief, of
walnut wood.

Pottery was well represented. A nut and raisin
dish in a soft, dark tone of green glaze, sustained
on three feet, had a most satisfactory outline; de-
signed and made by Estelle Rumbold. Then
there was a stunning lamp pot that looked like
black iron, in very good design, by Lucy F. Per-
kins. There were groups of pottery from William
Bulger, by the Dedham pottery ; and, by the Tiffany

Studio, some of the famous Favrile glass. There
was also some decorative pottery by Mr. Chas.
Volkmar. All of these, with the exception of the
Favrile glass with its rainbow hues, were in sub-
dued and even dark tones. The only light-keyed
things were some blue and white crackle plates
by the Dedham pottery, designed by H. C. Robert-
son, and a blue and white bowl made and designed
by Miss Matilda Middleton, the Chicago miniatur-
ist. There was a noticeable absence of decorated
ceramics. Two vases by Brandt Steele and a set
of Mexican water bottles closed the list, which
relied mainly upon outlines for their beauty.
