Athenian sketches and measurements. To Mr. Carter also and the other engravers, lithographers,
and printers, my thanks are due, for the pains they have taken in their several departments.

But my chief and paramount obligations are due to the Society of Dilettanti, who encouraged
me to make my second visit to Athens, who obtained for me the facilities which were required
for carrying on my operations there, and without whose liberality in undertaking the publication
of this work, no part of it would in all probability have been given to the public, certainly not
to the extent or with the advantages it now possesses.
