rence and flxed form.

[7] The duck, H. C. . . ., H. O. E. Ph. I. The duck was not found among
the hieratic characters of this inscription.

[8] The sieve, H. ®, C. H.O.E. cp, Ph. \\.

[9] The tongs, H. s==s, C. H.O.E. <=^, Ph. 0. Probably, though not

certainly, found once.

[10] The parallels, H. \\, C. Lj, H. O.E. fy, Ph. X. The hieroglyphic form occurs
also, as well as the hieratic.

[11] The bowl, H. ^=^, C. &\ H. 0. E. &\, Ph. ±j. The loop of this character,
which occurs frequently, is usually partly open at the top.

[12] The lioness, H. Jfes, C. H.O.E. Ph. 6- A curious transitional

form, but well defined.

[13] The owl, H. J^, C. H.O.E. jjr, Ph. vy/\. Of fréquent occurrence in a
slightly conventional form of the hieroglyphic character, but not found in the hieratic
form.
