COVENTRY—DUBLIN

" OLD OAK TREES IN STONE LEIGH
PARK." COLOURED WOODCUT
BY MRS. E. GARRETT RICE

issue of an exceedingly good set of twelve
photogravure postcards of the most popular
pictures in the collection. Among the

most attractive are those of Daumier's
masterly little drawing In the Omnibus;
Corot's famous View from the Pincio ; and
Off Lowestoft, by the late Nathaniel Hone,
R.H.A., who is generally considered to be
the greatest landscape painter whom
Ireland has yet produced, 000
It will be remembered that Mrs. Hone>
whose death in 1919 closely followed that
of her distinguished husband, left to the
Irish National Gallery all the oil paintings
and water-colour drawings by him in her
possession, together with a sum of £2,000,
for the purpose of providing additional
accommodation for their housing. The
works so bequeathed were numbered in
thousands. So the Governors of the
National Gallery decided, with the assent
of her executors, to accept a selection of
some hundreds of the most noteworthy
and to sell the residue with a view to
providing additional funds for building.
An exhibition of the works now offered
for sale is at present open to the public
at the private residence of Mr. Dermod
O'Brien, P.R.H.A., who has been deputed
both by Mrs. Hone's executors and by
the Governors of the National Gallery
to assume complete control of the whole
scheme. #0000
