BELFAST
" THE SAINT." LINOCUT
BY MISS W. M. GEDDES
washed Northern England in literature or
in painting. Where an artist is strong
enough to overcome the influence of the
materialism which holds this district fast
to earth, he shows the clear spirit, the
almost ascetic height, which characterised
the Brontes in literature. There is this
quality in Mr. Atherton's work, and
time will show the strength to which it
will attain. J. W. S.
BELFAST.—Miss W. M. Geddes and
Miss Rosamond Praeger held a re-
markably interesting and meritorious joint
show in Belfast during the month of
November. Miss Geddes contributed
thirty-five items, including drawings, lino-
cuts and designs for stained glass. No
fewer than five of these exhibits have
already been reproduced in The Studio ;
to which is now added a sixth, a character-
istic linocut of a saint. Miss Praeger
showed forty-five works in metal, marble,
clay and bronze, among which These
Little Ones, here reproduced, deserves
particular mention. It was exhibited at
Burlington House at the last exhibition
of the Royal Academy. T. B.
