Lubomirski's interest in the Flemish masters is proved by no less than 99 out of a total of
474 drawings in his collection/- The question that arises from this high proportion is to
what extent the collector was seriously interested in the Flemish school's development,
and which masters would he have preferred. According to the inventory of 1869, the draw-
ings of the Flemish school consisted of those of the old masters from the period between
the 15th and 17th centuries, among which a larger part was from the 1600s. The alphabetic
sequence applied in the arrangement of his drawings collection, as well as in the inventory
of 1869 did not match contemporaiy views concerning historical development based on
chronology, as adopted by d'Argenville, de Piles and Mariette/^
In the book inventory, cf.: note 12, one will find books such as: 7' asprd Tas wadozM, inventory number 479.
4* The data mentioned here is based on the inventory of 1869; cf.: note 3 and 14.
