If the plastic interior tinish testifies to an outstanding solution, a possible example for
other churches in Polish-controlled Livonia and an early manifestation of Vilnius-inspired
late-Baroque architecture, other nuances of the interior decor and furnishings escape
conclusions, because evidence on them is so scarce. A polychrome decor is known to have
been there; Jesuit painter Jan Gundlfinger" had worked in the church in 1744-1747. In
1743, a plafond painting with gilded stucco rosettes is mentioned'". Possibly, the main
polychrome accent had been the finish of vaults, combining painting and stucco decor. No
information has survived on the original colouring of altars. In addition, nothing is known
about the authentic altarpieces and sculptures to restore their iconographic program. The
work of carpenters and wood-carvers also deserves mentioning but there is nothing to
