Zum drittenmale geht die von F. G. Kiessling ausgesprochene
Hoffnung (Schulprogramm von Halle 1847) in Erfüllung: non pror-
sus videtur spes abiicienda esse, fore ut Hyperidis orationes ali-
quando ex situ et tenebris in lucem protrahantur, und zwar darf
man behaupten, dass, wie die Reden für Euxenippus und Lyko-
phron*) ein bedeutenderer Fund waren als die der zahlreichen, aber
keine durchgehende Verbindung zulassenden Ueberbleibsel der Rede
gegen Demosthenes **), so dieser έπι,τάφι,ος abermals wichtiger sei als
jene άπολογίοα ***), insofern er bei den Alten für eines seiner Mei-
sterwerke gehalten wurde, wie denn Longin f) περί νψον§ (c. 34)

hardly in a position to form a judgment of the powers of Hyperides from
apeech of that kind, und fügt hinzu although I am scarcely able to agree with

mis et acutus, sed causis minoribus magis par: „yet at any rate the complaint
can be made no longer with any decency or plausibility. Gewiss waren aber
auch jene Kunstrichter zu einem Urtheil über die genannten Reden nicht ge-
hörig vorbereitet.
