it not somewhat like the palatal German sound of ch as in " ich 'J ?
The connection of hntw (?) with kmyt is important. Evidently, the htitt sntr
Ebers, 46, 12; 56, 4, is the same substance, viz. a kind of fragrant raisin. I think, it is
not the " prsestantissimum " (Stern), but the "Nubian kind" from the ^. Ebers,
56, 4, â^M| follows directly, so that the two substances must have been différent1.
The ostracon is, evidently, a mere writing exercise. This is demonstrated by the
reverse where the schoolboy repeats single words, taken partly from the recto without
any connection. The recto shows by the measures added that the writing exercise began
with a cohérent prescription taken from some médical book. It is difficult to détermine
the nature of that prescription. Dr. von Oefele in Neuenahr whom I consulted, did not
dare to give a decided judgment, but thought it probable that a lotion for some der-
matic disease was meant. I notice that the lapis-lazuli appears in Ebers exclusively in
prescriptions for the eye. It is not possible to say anything more.
I publish my notes, incomplète as they are, in the hope that they will direct the
interest of scholars towards the little monument and will incluce others to republish the
.verso. In the meantime, the new lexicographie material ofïered by my extract will
form an excuse for this imperfect publication.

§ 1. — Monument inédit de la Collection Éd. Fétis, à Bruxelles.
Des recherches suivies, dans plusieurs collections privées, à Bruxelles, m'ont fait
découvrir un certain nombre de monuments égyptiens inédits, présentant tous par
quelque côté un réel intérêt pour l'étude. Je compte les faire connaître par une publi-
cation d'ensemble; cependant, une exception m'a paru nécessaire en faveur de l'un de
ces monuments, qui appartient, semble-t-il, aux premières années de la XVIIIe dy-
nastie. Les inscriptions qu'il porte sont difficiles en plus d'un endroit, et sans rechercher
davantage à élucider tous ces points spéciaux, j'ai pensé faire œuvre utile en posant
immédiatement les problèmes à de plus habiles que moi.
Les photographies jointes au mémoire, photographies que je dois à l'obligeance
empressée de mon ami L. Stainier, permettront mieux que toute description de se
rendre compte de l'aspect extérieur du monument.
J'ai, en vain, cherché à trouver une indication d'origine; les titres du personnage
