On the summit of a conical hill
west bank of the Nile, are several
above the temples of Wadi-Helfa, on the
graffiti to the number of thirteen : the
names of Antef, Mentuhotep and User indicate that the place was visited in the
time of the XIth Dynasty.
Southward of the village of Serreh, miscalled Aksheh in Bsedeker's Upper Egypt>
on the Western Bank of the Ni le and about ten miles North of Helfa, are the founda-
tions of a temple built by Ramses II, which hâve been excavated by Captain Lyons.
As he had no time himself to copy the inscriptions, I dicl so, my copies of them being
as follows :
