their aristocratic owners, inspired by the guide to Versailles titled Maniere de montrer les
Jardins de Yersailles which was supposedly written by Louis XIV himself.
This symposium devoted to Le Nótre is being held in the Royal Castle in Warsaw,
where currently moves are being taken to reconstruct its own gardens which, while being
much later, sińce they were laid out in the 20th century, were mfluenced in their traditional
geometrie form by the works of the French garden designer. Also, the Castle’s art collec-
tions include exhibits directly connected with the Versailles residence. I would like to
draw the attention of participants at this symposium to the stone sculptures of Diana and
Apollo, executed by Collignon around 1673, which may be visited in the so-called Castle
Treasury.
Ladies and gentlemen, I would like to wish you all an interesting exchange of thoughts
and once again express my satisfaction that you have been so good as to meet here at the
Royal Castle in Warsaw.
