Wir begrüfjen zu Beginn diefes Heftes aufs herzlichffe die Tagung der
Königlich Englifchen Gefellfchaff für öffentliche Gefundheitspflege in unferer
Stadt!
Kein Volk hat fo frühzeitig den Sinn für hygienifche Wohnkultur zu wecken
verbanden und entwickelt wie das englifche. Kein Volk hat fo radikal Licht
und Luft in alle Stadtteile zu bringen verftanden und damit unendlichen ge-
fundheitlichen Nurjen gefchaffen wie England. Kein Volk hat fo frühzeitig die
hygienifche Wohn-Technik ausgebildet und überall durchgeführt wie England.
Eine Stadt wie Frankfurt, die durch die Verhältniffe in den legten Jahrzehnten
mehr gelitten hat als viele andere und trotjdem im Begriffe fteht, in den
Fragen der grohftädtifchen Befiedelung und der hygienifchen Unterbringung
weifer Volksfchichten führend zu werden, empfindet es mit ftolzer Genug-
tuung, dah diefe bedeutende englifche Gefellfchaff ihre erften Eindrücke
über die Entwicklung deutfcher Grofjftädte nach dem Kriege in Frankfurt a. M.
empfängt und erhofft fich aus der Tagung für beide Teile reiche Förderung

We have füll reason to heartily welcome the Congress of the English Society
in our town!
The English people have been the first to awakent the sense for hygienic
housing-culture and to develop it. No other people have undertaken so füll
of energy to bring light and air into the old parts of a city, an action, which
has done much good to the state of health. It was England, who has primarily
developed the hygienic technical forms of housing.
The city of Frankfort suffered during many years more than others through
the unfortunate fimes, but is nevertheless beginning to play a leading röle
in the question of City-colonies and hygienic method of housing a great
amount of people in different circumstances of life.— We feel proud, that
such an important English Society should have their first impression of the
development of German Cities after the war, in Frankfort.
Frankfort hopes, that the Congress will be for both parties a notable enriche-
ment of their hygienic ambitions.
