des Wiener Altertumsvereins und den betreffenden Werken von Oidtmann
bis Schmitz besprochen.
Die besten Aufsätze sind passim in obigen und anderen Zeitschriften von
Herrn Heinrich Löw, dem ich manche Förderung meines Wissens danke.
Die besten farbigen Abbildungen von Ebreichsdorf und St. Stephan in dem
schönen Werke der Firma Geylings Erben wiederum unter Löws Leitung
mustergültig in Originalgröße und Farben.
Ämong Austrian glass paintings of the 14th Century there is a group of
works, prominent by means of their superior quality, as well as by a number
of identieal characteristics of style. The origin of this group, of which we
have chief representatives in the Windows in St. Stephen’s in Vienna, and
in the Castle of Ebreichsdorf south of the city, is due to Orders of the Austrian
Ducal Court in the decade around 1395. Beside far-reaching uniformities in the
figural parts, we find a peculiar treatment of foliage recurrent in the ornamen-
tation of the backgrounds. The models for this school, which doubtlessly had
its site in Lower Austria, can be sought between the celebrated parament
of Narbonne of about 1374 and the Altar of St. Clare in Cologne of about
1370. In the following period there are repeated proofs of a strong influence
of this school in the Austrian provinces.
