Altrove si parlò della moglie di Giove
sull’Idalio monte: si rittorna parlarne
ancora perche prodotta in statua ed in as-
petto di sua illuminata possanza.
Il diadema adorna la maestosa sua
fronte retto da un funicolo “ lavorato a
rete in cui nella posterior parte del capo
è imprigionata la chioma. La severità
de’ lineamenti,!suoi grandi occhi, la sua
imperturbabilità, la caratterizzano per
la regina degli Dei: imponente è nel per-
sonale e nel gesto : ha il braccio dritto
elevato a sostenere lo scettro : è vestita
di lunga tunica ; e siccome la parte su-
periore non è coperta dal grandioso pal-
lio che la inviluppa, si distacca sì legger-
mente dalle membra alabastrine, che ne
fa osservare per la trasparenza di lei, la
bellezza e nobiltà delle forme; la finezza
del lavoro la coloca fra le opere de’ mi-
gliori tempi di Grecia.
Cette statue représente Junon, dont
nous avons déjà parlé, dans tout l’appa-
reil de sa majesté divine. Le front est
orné du magnifique sphendon**, ou dia-
dème, retenu par des fils en réseau qui
enveloppentlachevelurederrière la tête.
La sévérité des traits du visage, ses
grands yeux, son impassibilité la font
reconnaître pour la reine des Dieux : Son
attitude et son geste sont imposants.
Elle tient élevé le bras qui porte le
sceptre. Une longue robe la couvre en-
tièrement; mais le haut du corps est si
légèrement voilé qu’on peut admirer la
beauté et la noblesse des formes ; enfin
cette statue, si remarquable par le fini
du travail, est digne de figurer parmi les
meilleurs ouvrages des beaux temps de
la Grèce.

This statue represents Juno, in all the
pomp and splendor of divine majesty,
her forehead is ornamented with her
Sphendon**, or diadem which is fastened
at the back of her head by a net which
envelopes her hair. By the severity of
her countenance, her large eyes, and
her impassibility we easily recognize
the queen of the Gods ; her attitude and
her gestures are commanding. She raises
her arm and bears a sceptre in her hand.
The lower part of her body is entirely
covered with a long robe, while the up-
per part is so lightly veiled that the
beauty of her forms are perfectly visible.
This statue is remarkable for the finish
of the workmanship, and is worthy of a
place among the best works of art, of
the flourishing epochs of Greece.
