La Lucerna effigiata nella ennessa
stampa è di bronzo, a tre lumi, con am-
pio foro nel mezzo, onde immetervi l’o¬
lio, col corrispondente coperchio, non
attaccato alla medesima lucerna, e con-
seguentemente del tutto mobile. Vedesi
sopra di esso un danzatore nudo, con
fascia e braca che le parti pudende rico-
pre : ha sul capo un berretto frigio; è
grazioza la sua mossa in atto di fare un
salto, o, per meglio dire, di starsene
equilibrato su d’un piè solo. Lo smoc-
colatojo è adattatissimo all’uso, e con
doppia catena terminante, in due anelli
alle due estremità pende dalle mani del
danzatore : le due punte dello smocolatojo
sono una dritta, l’altra aguzza come
pure aguzza ed uncinata èia seconda.
Benissimo ideata è la mobilità di tutta
la figura, che poggia sul coperchio,
senza esservi attaccato, mentre, volen-
dosi tener ferma la lucerna nel suo sos-
tegno, o parlarla dovunque, tutto potea
praticarsi facilmente, tolto il ballerino
che le sovrasta.


La lampe représentée ci-conlre est de
bronze, à trois branches; elle est percée
d’un large trou au milieu pour y mettre
l’huile, avec son couvercle correspon-
dant mais mobile. Il est surmonté d’un
danseur nu, sauf le milieu du corps que
recouvre une ceinture formant caleçon.
La tête du danseur est coiffée du bonnet
phrygien, sa pose est gracieuse; il sem-
ble s’élancer pour sauter, ou plutôt, se
tenir en équilibre sur un seul pied.
Les moucheltes sont conformes à l’u¬
sage, avec une double chaîne, terminée
à chaque extrémité par un anneau qui
s’adapte à chaque main du danseur; el-
les se terminent par deux pointes, dont
l’une droite, et l’autre crochue et ai-
guisée.
C’est une charmante idée que la mobi-
lité de toute la figure qui pose sur
le couvercle sans y être attachée.
Qu’on laisse la lampe sur son pied ou
qu’on la change de place, tout peut se
faire avec facilité en enlevant le danseur
qui la surmonte.


The lamp here represented is in
bronze, with three branches; a large
hole pierced in the middle, admits the
oil, this hole has a moveable cover that
corresponds, and is surmounted by a
dancer who is naked excepting the lower
part of the body which is covered with
a band forming a sort of pantaloon. The
dancer wears a Phrygian cap, his atti-
tude is graceful, he appears to be pre-
paring to spring; or rather to balance
himself on one foot.
The snuffers are conformable to cus-
tom with a chain terminated at each ex-
tremity by a ring or handle; one of
which is attached to the right hand of
the dancer, these snuffers have two
points, one strait, the other crooked and
sharp.
The mobility of the whole figure
placed on the cover, without being at-
tached to it, is a charming invention. The
lamp may be left on its foot, or changed
to another place, with the greatest faci-
lity; in taking of the figure of the dancer
that surmounts it.
